The following is the eulogy for Peter Gallagher Jr., given by his father Peter Gallagher Sr., his sister Maeve and his uncle George Braley. It is unedited. The Gallaghers hosted a service Friday in honor of 22-year-old Peter, who died in a single-vehicle crash on Vale Road, at St. Mark Catholic Church. "The service on Friday was beautiful and we are so thankful for the support we have received from the community," Gallagher Sr. said. Father says death certificate shows Peter Gallagher's death an accident
Update 10:30 a.m. Wednesday As the Gallagher family prepares to say goodbye to their 22-year-old son who died in a crash over the weekend, a detective investigating the incident told them there was no sign alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash. Though results from the toxicology tests will take six to eight weeks, the death certificate for Peter Moran Gallagher Jr., of Wayland Street in Oakton, indicates his death to be an accident, said his father, Peter Gallagher Sr. Peter Gallagher Jr. died in a single-vehicle crash after his car drifted off Vale Road on Saturday. An Oakton man died in a single-vehicle crash near his home Saturday after his car drifted off Vale Road, police said. Peter Moran Gallagher Jr., 22, of Wayland Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. Fairfax County Police do not yet know whether speed and/or alcohol were factors in the crash. Gallagher was not wearing a seat belt. Just before 9 p.m. Saturday, Gallagher was driving a 1999 Mazda Protégé east on Vale Road when police say he drifted to the right off the road and struck a guardrail just past Valestra Circle. The car continued on the shoulder of the road, then struck a concrete wall. The crash is still under investigation. It was an honor to be privy to the eulogy and have a glimpse into the short life of a young man whose loss I sense every time I drive or walk down Vale. I can only speak for myself and my family, but I believe the entire community grieves with the Gallaghers for their tragic loss.   more ›
