Your Photos: Snow Comes To Oakton

What does the Northern Virginia "snowquester" look like in your yard? Share your snow pictures with Patch.

It may have taken until March, but Oakton finally saw the beginning of what is likely to be its first significant snowfall Wednesday morning. The Capital Weather Gang was forecasting 6 to 12 inches outside the Beltway, and 3 to 8 inches inside of it. Oakton is pretty close to that dividing line, so it's hard to tell just how much snow it will see.  For all snow updates, read: Virginia Snow Storm: Traffic, Closings in Oakton. But any amount of snow is probably enough for the kids and pets, who have barely seen snowfall this season.  So grab your camera for some winter fun. Click on "Upload Photos and Video" to share your adventures in the snow on Patch. We got you started with a couple great photos from Max Steinmetz from a 2011 snow storm…

At Home With Brutalism

Ooohhh … That’s Rich

No wealth of information in a poorly researched report.

On Feb. 13, MainStreet.com posted an article that ranked the wealthiest counties in the United States. And Fairfax County — home to Oakton, Virginia (as you know) — was listed as the second weathiest. In the country. (And often with wealth comes a certain level of sophistication ... so take that also-rans Orange County and New York City County...nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah.) I, of course, was alerted to this news by our Majordomo, who handles the pesky task of scanning the news for me and finding only the items he knows I will want to read. Master Canedo and I were nibbling on some toast points, Almas caviar and white truffles after spending the morning on our yacht (well … one of our yachts), and scoffing at how fuel costs have made it so …

This is just more proof that math is used mostly for evil. Also? Majordomo sounds like the name of Mr. Roboto's butler.   more ›

She is currently a freshman at Flint Hill School in Oakton. Ganz is a highly regarded pianist who is on a quest to perform all of Fryderyk Chopin's works over the next decade. He is performing a concert at Strathmore on Feb. 11.

Congratulations Mary! Brian Ganz himself at one point in time studied with Leon Fleisher. I recently attended a lecture and performance by Leon Fleisher who talked about his classes with Artur Schnabel. Fleisher is linked via Schnabel to a student-teacher tradition that descended directly from Beethoven himself. A masterclass isn't for the faint of heart by the way. It can't be easy to take …   more ›
