Softball: Freshman Hits Game-Winner for Senior Night

Emily Davine hits a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to earn a 2-1 victory of Potomac

On the night the Flint Hill softball team celebrated its seniors, freshmen stepped up in the bottom of the eighth for a 2-1 win over Potomac on Tuesday. After two scoreless innings, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead on an RBI line drive single from freshman Monica Brendsel to score Brittany deCamp, also a freshman. Pitcher Maggie Jardot, a senior, held the Panthers scoreless through six innings, but gave up an RBI double with one out in the top of the seventh to tie the game. She pitched eight strikeouts and gave up seven hits and two walks in eight innings of work.  The bottom of the eighth inning started with freshman Michelle Abt reaching on an error. Brendsel followed with a single to left field, putting runners on first and second bases. …

Softball: Huskies Overpower Panthers in 7-4 Win

Flint Hill tallies two home runs in win over Holton-Arms

Two solo home runs kicked off scoring sprees to lead Flint Hill softball to a 7-4 victory over Holton-Arms on Friday. The Huskies put up the first runs of the game in the first inning, starting with a solo shot from Brittany deCamp. Two batters later, Monica Brendsel hit a line drive double to score Shea Bouchard, who reached base on a dropped third strike. Lizzie Schofield's RBI double knocked in the last run of the inning. The Panthers remained scoreless until the fourth inning, in which they scored three runs to tie the game. But Schofield led off the fourth inning with a home run, which kicked off the Huskies' second scoring spree of the game. Softball: Clutch Hits Elusive in Huskies Loss

Flint Hill unable to string together a rally in third loss of the season

Despite putting 14 runners into scoring position, the Flint Hill softball team tallied three runs in its loss to St. Johns College High School on Tuesday. The Cadets opened scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Monica Brendsel cut the Huskies' two-run deficit in half with a solo homer in the third inning, but the Cadets answered with one run the next inning.  Brittany deCamp hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to score Emily Davine, who reached base on an error, to put the score at 4-2 entering the fifth inning. But again the Cadets answered, this time with two runs to put the Huskies down by three. Shae Bouchard added the last run for the Huskies with a line drive single to score Brendsel, who started the inning …

Flint Hill Softball Touts Strong Underclassmen

Huskies hopeful young talent can lead them deep into the postseason

Despite a young roster, the Flint Hill softball team believes it has a shot to match or beat its 10-6 regular season record from last year. Though last year's squad had many athletic upperclassmen, it lacked athletes who had experience in a competitive softball atmosphere. This year, the Huskies have several young players — particularly freshmen Monica Brendsel, Brittany deCamp and Michelle Abt, and sophomore Shea Bouchard — who also play on club teams. So while the starting lineup may be mostly underclassmen, Coach Andy Krug is hopeful for a strong season.  "We've got the talent to stay in it this year and be a good team for the next few years," Krug said.
