Huskies Fight Back for Win in Second Round

Flint Hill boys basketball goes on to final round of Bulldog Bash on Saturday.

The Flint Hill Boys' Basketball rebounded from an overtime loss in the first round of the Bulldog Bash tournament Thursday with a 67-43 victory Friday over Sewickley Academy (PA).   Coach Rico Reed said the Huskies used a 16-0 run in the first half and a 12-0 run in the second half to build double digit leads.  Junior guard Britton Anderson led the Huskies with 16 points and five assists, Reed said. Sophomore Sam Worman scored 13 points and Junior Cole Herdman led the team with 10 rebounds. The Huskies will play at 2:15 p.m. Saturday against Christchurch in the final day of the tournament at Centreville High School.  McClain Bell contributed reporting to this story.

Young Huskies Gain Experience in Summer Games

The Flint Hill boys basketball team hopes Summer League unites its inexperienced players

Because of graduation and transfers, this year's Flint Hill boys basketball team will be barely recognizable to Huskies fans.  With a likely roster of two — maybe three — seniors for the 2012-13 winter season, the Huskies instead anticipate a sophomore-heavy roster, all of whom have never played at the varsity level. The Huskies signed up for three summer leagues, including their own Flint Hill Summer League, to start preparation for the upcoming season.  Whereas many of the area's teams will be using the summer months to promote its players to college recruiters, the Huskies are aiming to give their young players experience against tough varsity competition. "My approach to summer has always been about development," Reed said. "Normally …

Boys Basketball: Huskies Fall One Point Short of Senior Night Victory

Flint Hill ends regular season with double overtime loss to St. James

The Flint Hill Huskies hoped to carry their momentum from Tuesday's nail-biting victory over Woodberry Forest into their game against St. James on Thursday to tally a win on Senior Night. Despite a valiant effort through double overtime, the Huskies fell one point short of the win with a 95-94 loss. Though the Saints started the game with a five-point run and stretched their lead to six points within two minutes of the game, the Huskies chipped away at the deficit with points from four different players — seniors Daniel Giguere, Trevor Ogundepo, Brian McDonald and Andy Rehberger — to take the lead with 2:30 left in the first period. The period ended with the Huskies up 16-14. The majority of the rest of the game saw both teams work within …

Boys Earn Win on the Road The Flint Hill boys basketball team bounced back from three tough, close losses to defeat highly ranked Middleburg Academy on the road 70-67.  The Huskies overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half. Boys Basketball: Huskies Suffer Overtime Loss

Flint Hill gives up early lead to conference foe Sidwell Friends

For the second game in a row, the Flint Hill Huskies boys basketball team sought vengeance for a narrow loss earlier in the season, but came up short with a 74-69 loss to Sidwell Friends in overtime. The Huskies jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first period and kept a healthy lead throughout the eight minutes with an offense led by Mo Berchie and Brian McDonald who combined for 14 of the Huskies' 16 first period points. Andy Rehberger tacked on the last two at the end of the period. After holding the Quakers to nine points in the first, the Huskies allowed 20 points while posting 20 points of their own to keep their seven-point lead at the end of the first half. The Quakers continued with their steady offense throughout the third, …

Boys Basketball: Huskies Lose Heartbreaker to Panthers

Potomac School scores at the buzzer to defeat Flint Hill

The Huskies sought vengeance for their loss to rival Potomac School earlier in the season, but their comeback lead vanished at the final buzzer to lose 74-73 on Saturday. The first half showed signs the Huskies would suffer an even worse loss than the 65-47 defeat last month. Posting 21 points total in the first half, the Huskies sat 18 points behind Potomac at halftime. The Huskies had one reason to celebrate in the first half: Mo Berchie reached his 1,000th career point on his first points of the game. But the Huskies went on an offensive tear after halftime that brought them within four by the end of the third period. The scoring spree started with two foul shots from senior Brian McDonald, who became a regular at the free throw line by…
