Oakton Boy Scout Improves Little League Fields

Evan Heitman and volunteers built pitching mounds for Chantilly Park

Clad in a Boy Scout uniform and a faded red cap, Oakton High School freshman Evan Heitman hoisted a shovel over his shoulder at Chantilly Park the morning of March 17 along with 50 volunteers to build seven bullpen pitching mounds for the Chantilly Youth Association (CYA) Little League fields. Heitman took on the project for his Eagle Scout project — a perfect opportunity for him to combine his longtime interests in Boy Scouts and baseball. "I have been in Boy Scouts since I was 10 and then before that I was a Cub Scout, which I was since I was 6," Heitman said.
