Elementary schoolchildren host volunteer shoe drive
A carload of shoes of all kinds are making their way to Central America thanks to the efforts of local kids. During the week of Nov. 12 through 16, the third- and fifth-graders from Waples Mill Elementary School took part in a volunteer shoe drive to help the needy. Emma Wagner, a fifth-grader from Waples Mill organized the event to help kids and adults in Honduras, the second poorest country on the Western Hemisphere. The shoes will allow children to attend school, and adults to obtain jobs and provide for their families. This was the second yea Wagner has planned and carried out this donation. The shoes will be delivered to Honduras through Art For Humanity Inc., a nonprofit based in Arlington. Jill Wagner contributed this report.
