He did to much,Okay these teens must of been watching the house for awhile and saw no movement andRead More broke in.But one shot was enough no matter how mad are nuts he went,So one has to wonder what the girl was thinking after she heard the shot ,that she did not get out of there ,Which leaves the Question when she saw that the boy was shot when she went down the basement did she start to go after the guy.Are did he shoot her coming down the steps.

While I don't commend the extent he carried this out to, I can understand the mental anguish. AfterRead More several break ins he probably had enough and went to the extreme of ensuring they will not do this to him again. If he held them, then he has to worry about watching his back for their next attempt. ANd now they know he's armed. If he left them wounded, a lawyer would sue him and he would end up going broke paying for their lifetime medical needs, pain and suffering. It was preventable by the two that broke in. It was their choice and they chose poorly. Someone breaks in, who kows their intent? They should be shot and the homeowner not persecuted. Hopefully this may give other people pause before they break into a home.

Hey Jerry, I am talking about you specific people on this specific blog post with my originalRead More comment. I, personally, don't give two farts about Sarah Palin or any of her prodigy, and I never once went on any message board or blog post and said the first thing about her or president shrubbery..... and I said as much in my original post. Now, if you'd like to berate me on the point of my post instead of your perceived sins of all liberals, please do. Until and unless you are ready to do that though, I invite you to not lump me with anybody else because I'm an individual.... and maybe learn how to comprehend what you're reading while you're at it.
B. Dub April 24, 2014 at 09:32 am
It's "progeny", not "prodigy". It's kind of tough to comprehend what we'reRead More reading when it is written so poorly.

But what about if we are sick of John McCain? So now I'm a woman-hater, a racist, and a man-hater (veteran-hater? Ageist?)? Who does that leave? I am not a woman-hater. I'm a Hillary-hater.

And there you have it!!! At least he admits that he has no loyalty to America or our ConstitutionalRead More right to not be enslaved by our government...more than I can say for the politicians...and Jim, no one said "Europe" was a country, but I have found that liberals do have a reading comprehension problem, so there's that. Please expand on your "proper relationship between the people and their government" comment...are you from "Europe", Jim?
Jim Daniels April 23, 2014 at 04:58 pm
Now, I have always thought of George Washington as a pretty loyal American...between 1776 and 1788Read More he lived in a country without our present Constitution or Bill of Rights, and in fact was one of the most influential in devising our current Constitution. Would we say he was a disloyal American because he worked to replace the Articles of Confederation? No, or course not. As you may, or may not know, our current Constitution provides a mechanism for changing it either through congressional action or constitutional convention. If the majority of our fellow citizens wanted to change from the current three branch structure to something more akin to what they have in say Norway, Britain, or Canada the constitution provides a way to do that. In my opinion we should....just as George Washington, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and Benjamin Franklin did...you wouldn't call them disloyal to America would you? As to my "Europeness," ...personally I was born here in the United States (New York). My ancestors arrived here starting in about 1623. I am directly descended from both Edward Hilton (one of the founders of New Hampshire), and John Winthrop (the founder of Boston). My last set of immigrant ancestors arrived here in 1851 from Ireland as the result of the Potato Famine. So I guess you could say that I am from "Europe"...at least a good portion of my DNA is. Now Kim...I'm wondering if you are really moving as you promised. This is not the first time claimed you were...back in September of 2013 you said "...We have lived near Merrifield for 17 years now and are moving because of the exact same issues you raised." This was referencing a comment by another person regarding the "influx of illegal aliens." So first Kim, are you moving because of the high taxes, or because of the illegals...and second...why is it taking so long? Home values are way up...certainly you could have sold your home and found another by now! Makes me wonder if you are telling the truth!
Jake Burke April 23, 2014 at 05:02 pm

TO THE EDITOR....I'm seriously disappointed by the removal of peoples comments overnight.... If youRead More cannot see the flow and context of comments made,, how is one supposed to understand the comments you read? The young man, Black Panther was defending himself and his position in the face of raw bigotry and you removed that?? When you invite unfettered comments from people on a forum such as this,, CENSORSHIP HAS NO PLACE. You either put on your big boy/girl panties and allow Free Speech to run it's course,,, of you SHUT THIS DOWN. I'm so surprised at your actions. Not good!

Fairfax kids could get more sleep under proposal.
CS April 23, 2014 at 02:15 pm
Instead of trying to be your kids best friend, get them to bed earlier! I go to bed at around 930pmRead More when I can so that I can get enough sleep to wake up at 530am to get to work by 7am! That's life! Not sure how this helps them prepare for real life where employers don't care about how much sleep you got the night before! This argument is really absurd and a waste of time.
Lisa Ross April 23, 2014 at 04:11 pm
Convict and CS, you obviously think most parents are neglectful. They are not. And my teens are inRead More bed at 9 pm every night with no electronics. But in order to get 9 hours of sleep and still wake at 5:30 am, they would have to be in bed AND asleep at 8:30 pm. NO teen can fall asleep that early -or even at 9 or 9:30 pm. Teen biology is DIFFERENT than adult and child biology -THAT is the issue. Their melatonin does not turn on till about 10 or 11 pm and they are not alert until about 8 -9 am. Just ask any HS teacher about their first period class. That is why this is a problem -not because parents just let their teens stay up till all hour. Adults can also choose where to live and which jobs to take. So for example, I would never take a job that starts at 7 am. But FCPS kids have no choice when they have to get up and research shows they sleep is every bit as important as food for physical and mental health. For teens, it's also even more important than for adults like you two since teens are still growing. Besides the period between 0 -2 years of age, I bet the teen years are the biggest growth period for body and brain development. This issue matters.
CS April 23, 2014 at 06:07 pm
Thank you for your input, Lisa. I raised my kids and also was a kid myself. I understand how puttingRead More kids to bed earlier allows them more sleep. Not sure our biological makeup changed much since I was a kid or my children were going to school. As far as kids not being able to fall asleep? My kids had no problem because they led active lives during the day. Sleep was welcomed by bedtime. Also, you would have to be naïve to believe that many parents give their child a reasonable bedtime or a bedtime at all for that matter. I'm quite sure many parents have no idea how late their kids stay up. You are obviously an exception. It's also silly to think that kids are not going to stay up later because of this. So, all of this effort will be for naught. It hasn't impaired the growth and learning of kids thus far. Not sure I've met anyone who has been a failure because their school start at 720 instead of 820. As far as my job being a choice? Wow! Would be nice to have the luxury of choice when it comes to decent employment. I envy you for that!
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Why do I have a problem with the Gates foundation? I think I said it before. They funded theRead More organizations that wrote the standards. They funded the organizations that reviewed the standards. They fuinded every group that supposedly had "input" into the development of the standards. There is NO record of what the "input" consisted of, or if any of it was implemented. All we really have on record is the Content advisor for Mathematics, Jim Milgrim, prof. at Stanford, explaining why he refused to endorse the math standard. We have the English Language content advisor, Sandra Slotsky, explaining why she, likewise, could not sign off on the standards. And she explains that she has sat on many such committees before, in her role in developing Massachussetts very well-respected standards, and she said that this is the first time she was required to sign a non-disclosure. She said such committees are usually subject to "Sunshine" laws. These are specific people, highly qualified people, giving specific and detailed testimony. But you would rather keep pointing to the CC website vaguely referring to "how educators were involved".

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! I agree with B. Dub 100%! How was this kid able to scale a fence and just walk right over to theRead More plane? TSA: for all the harassing you do in the terminal...you ain't all that!! As far as the kid being a runaway..maybe he does face some serious abuse issues at home. He's damn lucky to be alive. But, I raised three boys, and a 16 year old boy can runaway for any collage of reasons. My kids never ran away but, I'm wondering if the fact that the plane was going to HAWAII has anything to do with it. It sounds a little compulsive to me. CPA need good follow up on this. Wow, I'm weighing in a bit late but had to after reading the whack-job Dee spouting religiousRead More diatribe. It is individuals like her that make normal people think that religious people are all hell and brimstone, spewing scriptures with a mouth filled with spit and foam. Go back into your hovel Dee. If you don't like homosexuality then I suggest you do not partake in it, otherwise, as Jesus says, "love one another, Judge not lest ye be judged" etc. Growing up with a Pentecostal preacher father I have seen religious fanaticism and I've learned that the poison inside of someone affects their own soul and makes them the opposite of what Jesus taught us to be. Sad actually.
