Phillies agreed to terms with Jonathan Papelbon (4-1, 2.94 ERA, .207 BAA, 31 saves, 2012 age: 31) to a four year, $50 million deal.

Jonathan Papelbon.  Not too many thought that he would be gone by Thanksgiving.  Papelbon has been one of the top closers in the majors since his incredible rookie year in 2006, though inconsistency has plagued him over the last two seasons.  Since the Phillies lost closer Ryan Madson, they were looking for a new guy to hold down the fort, and it looks like Papelbon will not only give them a replacement, but a shut down guy that rarely fails.  Pap had his best year back in 2006 as a 25 year old rookie, going 4-2 with a 0.92 ERA, giving up only 7 earned runs over 68 1/3 innings. He also saved 35. He never posted an ERA above 2.34 until 2010, when he had the worst year of his career. That year, he was 5-7 with a 3.90 ERA, but on September 16th, 2011, he looked like he rebounded nicely, as his ERA sat at 2.56.  He gave up a run on the 20th, then another on the 27th. That set up the drama of the 28th. His ERA at 2.69 entering the game, he came within one out of securing the biggest win of the season for the Sox, but imploded, giving up the tying, then winning run to the Orioles. That knocked the Sox out of postseason contention, and his ERA up to 2.94. Still, his career ERA sits at 2.33 and his BAA at just .204, saving 219 games along the way.

Other News

Here is the news you all have been waiting for. Wilson Ramos was found in the mountains of Carabobo, about 40 miles northwest of the sight of his kidnapping in Valencia. He is safe and has been returned to his family. Ramos' Winter League team, Los Tigres de Aragua, was playing a game at the time of the news release, and the fans gave a cheering ovation, pausing play for an emotional Tigers team.

The Florida, now Miami, Marlins introduced their new name (Miami Marlins), uniforms, team colors, and logo in a showcase at Marlins Ballpark. Albert Pujols was also in Miami to speak with the Marlins on signing.
