Bunny Train Visits McLean Central Park

Earth Day at Cub Run RECenter
Volunteers will be cleaning the water retention pond, weeding, planting and mulching the front of Cub Run RECenter from 9 a.m. to noon. The event includes fun crafts and demonstrations from the naturalist staff. Bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and bug repellent. This event is perfect for scout groups and community service opportunities. The rain date is April 26. For information, call 703-817-9407.
Natures' April Foolers Campfire
With live animals and stories, join a Hidden Oaks Nature Center naturalist from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. in learning how animals use trickery to get a meal or to keep from being a meal. Toast marshmallows. The cost is $6 per person. Register online. For information, call 703-941-1065.

Hands-on Nature
Drop-off your child for an hour of natural adventure from 2 to 3 p.m. at E.C. Lawrence Park. Explore the world of birds, animals and plants, and enjoy games and craft activities. The cost is $5 per child. Register online. For information, call 703-631-0013.
Bluebells and Bloodroots
From 10 to 11:30 a.m. learn to identify Riverbend Park’s beautiful spring ephemerals and discover the folklore that has grown up around them as we walk along the banks of the Potomac River. The cost is $6 per person. Register online. For information, call 703-759-9018.
Breakfast with the Birds
From 7:30 to 10 a.m. at Riverbend Park, enjoy a continental breakfast and then hike with a naturalist to varied habitats to search for fall migrants passing through. The cost is $7. Register online. For information, call 703-759-9018.
Spring Blossom Garden Tour
Master Gardener docents lead you through the gardens at Green Spring from 10 to 11:30 a.m., highlighting cherry trees and other early-spring bloomers. Hear stories of these harbingers of spring and learn how they grow. Afterward, in honor of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, enjoy Japanese tea and sweets in the Historic House. The cost is $12 per person.
Wagon Ride: Birds, Butterflies and Blossoms
Take a wagon ride scavenger hunt through the meadow at Riverbend Park from 10 to 11 a.m. Search for birds and butterflies and meet a friendly animal up close. The cost is $5. Register online. For information, call 703-759-9018. (More info here on wagon rides at various county parks.)
Easter Egg Hunt at Nottoway Park
Visit with the Easter bunny and hunt for candy, toys and eggs at Hunter House in Nottoway Park. Egg hunts start at 10:30 a.m. (1-2 yrs.); 11 a.m. (3-4 yrs.), 11:30 a.m. (5-6 yrs.), and noon (7-9 yrs.). Walk-in registration starts at 9:30 a.m. (cash only). The cost is $8. Grain Grinding at Colvin Run MillSee recent renovations to the mill on a “hard hat tour” and see the waterwheel turn and the grinding stones spin again. The cost is $7 per adult, $6 per student, and $5 for children and seniors. For information call 703-759-2771.
