Avast! Talk Like a Pirate Day is Thursday. Practice yer pirate speak.
Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Karen Garza along with four others will be on a panel discussion called Behind the Headlines: the State of Education in Fairfax County. The forum is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fairfax High School on 3501 Rebel Run in Fairfax. The Washington Post-sponsored event is free. Mark you calendar: Teens and their parents are invited to attend an informational meeting on the Fairfax County Police Explorers post. Explorers offer teens interested in a career in law enforcement the chance to learn more about the field. The meeting is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on September 24 at 4900 Stonecroft Boulevard in Chantilly.
