Want to know how to better plan events? Fairfax County is hosting an event planning workshop from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Workhouse Arts Center on 9601 Ox Road in Lorton. Register online

The Fairfax Choral Society Adult Symphonic Chorus is hosting an open rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the Fairfax Presbyterian Church, 10723 Main St. in Fairfax.

Families with young children can learn about Jewish traditions at the Kabbalat Shabbat Family Service this week. The service teaches prayers and rituals through guitar music, singing, and storytelling. The event is at 7 p.m. Friday at Adat Reyim on 6500 Westbury Oaks Court in Springfield.

Beyond Fairfax:

Catch a screening of the award-winning documentary “Blood Brother” this week. The movie is about a man’s decision to move to India and restart his life among children living at an HIV orphanage, according to a description of the event posted on the event’s website. The screening is at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the AMC Potomac Mills 18 on 2700 Potomac Mills Circle in Woodbridge.
