Day of Service, Navy Band Performs, Sugarloaf Crafts Festival Begins and More Events this Week

Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. See what’s open and what’s closed in Fairfax County.

In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Volunteer Fairfax is hosting a volunteer event at the Herndon Senior Center from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday at 873 Grace St. #1, Herndon. Find out how to participate. If you are in the Alexandria area, the organization also has a volunteer opportunity at Heritage Presbyterian Church from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at 8503 Fort Hunt Road. Wednesday is Election Day for those in the 33rd state senate district. The election will fill the seat of state Sen. Mark Herring, who is now Virginia’s attorney general. The election only applies to those in 33rd State Senate District, which falls in parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Find out more information.

The U.S. Navy Concert Band is performing at Westfield High School this week. The band will perform a combination of military band music and patriotic favorites. The free concert takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school on 4700 Stonecroft Boulevard in Chantilly.

The Sugarloaf Crafts Festival kicks off Friday at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. Check out sculptures, glass, jewelry, and more. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center Drive. Get tickets online, or find out more information.
