Werman Scores, Hits RBI as UVA Tops California in College World Series
Oakton grad goes 2 for 4, knocks in one run
, an Oakton High graduate, scored the first run for the University of Virginia in their 4-1 win over the University of California, Berkeley in their first game in the College World Series.
After 6 1/2 scoreless innings, Werman led off for the Cavaliers with a single to centerfield. Teammates Chris Taylor and Matt Flemer followed with a walk and a sacrifice bunt to move Werman to third and Taylor to second. A single from John Hicks scored Werman for the first run of the game.
Steven Proscia hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor, which would end the inning with the Cavaliers up 2-0.

The Cavaliers knocked in two more off a triple from Jared King and a single from Werman.
The Virginia pitching staff kept the Golden Bears scoreless until the ninth, when Marcus Semien led off with a single and, three batters later, Chad Bunting hit an RBI single to score Cal's first and only run.

But Cavs closer Branden Kline would end the game with three pitches to Darrel Matthews for a popout.
