Werman, Cavaliers Fall to Gamecocks 7-1

University of Virginia to play Thursday against Cal

The Gamecocks started their dominance over the Cavaliers in the first inning and never looked back to win 7-1 in the second game of the College World Series on Tuesday.

The No. 4 University of South Carolina took advantage of two errors to score three runs in the first inning.

The No. 1 University of Virginia remained scoreless until John Hicks hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, but the Cavs never got a rally going.

, an Oakton High graduate, went 0 for 1 and walked. Pinch hitter Reed Gragnani took his spot in the lineup in the seventh.

The Cavaliers face elimination in their next contest, which will be against the University of California, Berkeley at 7 p.m. Thursday.
