Werman Called Up to Mariners' Class A Team

Mariners organization moves Oakton graduate Keith Werman to Everett, Wash., affiliate

A little more than a month after being signed to the Seattle Mariners organization, Keith Werman was called up Tuesday from the Rookie League in Arizona to the Class A AquaSox in Everett, Wash.

Werman, a 22-year-old second baseman who graduated from Oakton High and tournaments with the University of Virginia, posted a .297 batting average and .435 on-base percentage in 14 games with the Rookie League squad.

The Aquasox currently stand at the top of the West Division standings with a 24-8 record. He will join fellow UVA graduate Chris Taylor, who leads the Aquasox with a .310 batting average and .423 on-base percentage.

A week after Major League Baseball ended its draft, offering him a contract. Since his signing, he has played with the Aquasox in Peoria, Ariz.

Named to the second team All-Atlantic Coast Conference earlier this year, the 2012 UVA graduate led the NCAA Division I in sacrifice bunts with 28 and holds the record for most career sacrifice bunts at UVA.
