Watts Scores on 95-Yard Kickoff Return Despite Injury

Throughout the school year, Oakton Patch works hard to keep readers updated on the athletic achievements of Oakton High and Flint Hill School students. But what happens once those athletes leave high school?

With strong programs at both high schools, many students have opportunities to continue with athletics in college. And some are talented enough for a post-collegiate athletic career.

Week of Oct. 1-7

Football

Despite mounting concern for his ankle injury earlier this week, Trey Watts took 18 carries for 111 yards and returned three kickoffs for 144 yards — including 95-yard return for a touchdown — in University of Tulsa's win over Marshall on Saturday.

In his Oct. 6 start on Oberlin College's defensive line, Spencer Conley assisted in two tackles.

Chris Coyer led Temple University to a 37-28 victory over South Florida on Saturday, with 54 rushing yards — including 24-yard touchdown run — and 125 passing yards — including a 9-yard touchdown pass — on 16 completions.

Jovan Smith ran a 45-yard touchdown in University of Richmond's win over Villanova on Saturday. Smith tallied 71 rushing yards on six carries.

Jack Tyler had seven tackles — four solo — in Virginia Tech's loss to University of North Carolina on Saturday.

Soccer

Alex Meyers scored her second career goal in University of North Carolina — Charlotte's win over George Washington University on Saturday.

Erica Stein had one save in Emory University's tie with Washington University (Mo.) on Sunday.  

Volleyball

Christie Fellows tallied 32 kills over four games for Christopher Newport University this week.

Tori Janowski notched 52 assists and 14 digs over two games for University of Virginia this weekend.

Marilyn Peizer had 27 digs for Fairfield University this weekend.
