Swim & Dive: Cougars Remain Undefeated

Boys, girls edge out Chantilly to improve record to 5-0

In their closest contest to date, the Oakton High boys and girls swim and dive teams defeated the Chantilly Chargers in Friday's meet at Oak Marr Recreation Center.

The Cougar boys defeated the Chargers 160-155, and the girls won 177-135. The victory is the fifth straight for both teams, leaving them with undefeated records.

Oakton dive had another week of strong performances, with Joseph LeBerre taking first place for the team.

"It was a really close meet, closer than we had anticipated, but we pulled through in the end," said Stephanie Hallock, a team captains. "If we keep up the hard work, there's a definite possibility of an undefeated season and a shot for the State title."

Philip Hu placed first in both of his individual events, 100-yard butterfly and 100-yd backstroke. Conor Murphy placed first in 50-yard freestyle and second in 100-yard freestyle. Ryan Santoro finished first in 100-yard breaststroke and second in 50-yard freestyle.

For the girls, Janet Hu placed first in 200-yard freestyle and in 100-yard butterfly. Laura Branton finished first in 50-yard freestyle and in 100-yard freestyle.

Oakton will return to the pool — and celebrate Senior Night — at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Robinson Secondary at Cub Run Recreation Center.
