Dec. 9 vs. Westfield:
Girls: 218-94 WIN
Boys: 194-121 WIN
The Oakton Cougars crushed the Westfield Bulldogs despite missing 12 swimmers to the Tom Dolan and Winter Classic meets. The boys won 194-121, and the girls won 218-94.
Oakton’s divers got the team off to a strong start with another week of solid dives. The positive energy created by Oakton dive pumped up the swimmers to dominate the pool and get the win.
"The depth of the team really showed tonight, as swim after swim kids stepped up, dropped time, and displayed they were prepared to win," Head Coach Parker Ramsdell said.
The highlights of the meet came mostly from the freshmen on the team as they stepped up to fill the shoes of missing upperclassmen. In his first time swimming the 100-yard butterfly, Jimmy Bailey placed third. Matt Skinner broke 1 minute in the 100-yard backstroke Friday night.
The girls swam well, dominating the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly with finishers at first, second, third and fourth places. Kendall Lawhorn, a sophomore, finished first in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100 yard freestyle with great drops in time.
Next weekend the Cougars face two teams. Oakton will go to the water against Herndon at Oak Marr Recreation Center at 8:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, they will compete against Centreville at 8:30 p.m. at the same location.
