Softball: Huskies Overpower Panthers in 7-4 Win

Flint Hill tallies two home runs in win over Holton-Arms

Two solo home runs kicked off scoring sprees to lead Flint Hill softball to a 7-4 victory over Holton-Arms on Friday.

The Huskies put up the first runs of the game in the first inning, starting with a solo shot from Brittany deCamp. Two batters later, Monica Brendsel hit a line drive double to score Shea Bouchard, who reached base on a dropped third strike. Lizzie Schofield's RBI double knocked in the last run of the inning.

The Panthers remained scoreless until the fourth inning, in which they scored three runs to tie the game.

But Schofield led off the fourth inning with a home run, which kicked off the Huskies' second scoring spree of the game. After Emily Davine and Ashli Everstine each hit singles, Michelle Webber was ruled out due to the infield fly rule — but then the second baseman dropped the ball, allowing the runners to advance a base. When the second baseman then tried to get the out at second base, Davine scored from third. Maggie Jardot hit an RBI single and Brendsel tallied a fielder's choice RBI to score the Huskies' last two runs for a 7-3 advantage heading into the fifth inning.

The Panthers tacked on one more run in the sixth inning, but could not overcome the deficit, putting the final score at 7-4 in the Huskies' favor.

"We've been working on our hitting and it showed today," Assistant Coach Lindsay Deibler said.

The Huskies improved their season record to 7-4. They will play one nonconference game and three Independent School League games in the next 10 days to cap off the regular season.

The Huskies (3-1 ISL) have defeated each of their upcoming conference opponents once this season, so Deibler is hopeful the girls will be able to rank at least second in the conference.

"We're working hard every day, chipping away," Deibler said. "We're a young team but the girls are really starting to gel together."
