Softball: Cougars Advance in Region Tourney

Oakton defeats McLean 3-1 to advance to the second round of the Northern Region Tournament

After a disappointing loss in the Concorde District final Thursday, the Oakton High softball team regrouped to earn a 3-1 win in the first round of the Northern Region Tournament against McLean High.

The Highlanders broke the two-inning stalemate with a run in the top of the third inning, but the Cougars took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Becky Cerva hit an RBI single to score Angie Noviello, who entered the base path on a walk. Allison Davis followed with a fielder's choice RBI to knock in Mary Kate Mehegan, who reached on a bunt single.

After another inning-and-a-half of no runs, the Cougars' Emily Krisanda hit an RBI double to score Davis, who reached on a double of her own, to add the last run of the game.
