Volleyball: Olson Tops Cougars' All-Time Aces List

Oakton High senior breaks record set in 2010

Emma Olson now stands atop Oakton High School's rankings for career aces, surpassing Karalee Thomas' record set in 2010.

Olson, a senior setter and 2011 All-Concorde District first team selection, tied Thomas' record of 121 in the Cougars' match against Chantilly on Oct. 10, then notched two more against Herndon to put her total at 123 as of Tuesday.

"This accomplishment shows the amount of hard work and dedication Emma has put into the program and how much she means to our team," Coach Dan Courain said. "Although she is excited to have the record, I know that Emma would gladly trade it for a district championship which really shows her true value as a player and team captain."

Olson's modesty showed after she tied Thomas' record on Oct. 10 in the Cougars' match against Chantilly: "It was more exciting to win our first district match, but to have these small achievements on the side is really cool."

The Cougars enter their last week of the regular season with a 14-9 overall record and a 2-1 Concorde District record. They will host Westfield at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday for Senior Night.
