Oakton Swim and Dive Stays Undefeated

Friday victory over Centreville gives Cougars fourth win of the season.

Oakton High School’s Varsity Swim and Drive teams continued their undefeated winning streak Saturday after a win over Centreville.

The girls scored 203 points over Centreville’s 112. The boys won with 219 points with Centreville only scoring 95.

Oakton Dive also had a strong performance: Julia Powell placed first for the diving portion of the night with 152.95 points. Bennett Fagan took second on the boys’ side with 196.25 points.

Oakton swimmers put in 110 percent effort the entire meet. On both the girls’ and boy’s teams the 200-yard Medley Relay placed first and second.

Janet Hu, Melissa Shebat, Laura Branton, and Gillian Crews took first, with Jodie Koplaski, Ashley Nero, Julia Capobianco, and Kendall Lawhorn in second.

Philip Hu, Nathan Pawlowicz, Denny Nguyen, and Gregory DeRosa placed first. John Shebat, Michael Pettinichi, Gray Liddell, and Chris Crapco followed to take second. In the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, the boys’ and girls’ both took first place again.

Laura Branton won the the 200-yard Individual Medley and Gillian Crews placed first in the 50-yardd Freestyle. In the 100-yard Butterfly, Elise Bourdelais placed first. Megan Byrnes took the win in the 500-yard Freestyle. Janet Hu placed 1st in the 100-yard Backstroke. In the 100-yard Breaststroke, Melissa Shebat took first place for the team.

Philip Hu placed first in both of his individual events – the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100-yard Backstroke. Nathan Pawlowicz placed first in the 200-yard Freestyle. Michael Ambrose won the 50-yard Freestyle. Denny Ngyen placed first in the 100-yard Butterfly. Mason Hawkins placed first in the 100-yard Freestyle. In the 500-yard Freestyle, Andrew Sargent took first place. Michael Pettinichi took first place for the team in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Oakton will return to the pool at 6:30pm Jan. 4 against Westfield at Cub Run RECenter, in Chantilly.
