Oakton Girls Swim & Dive Win Fourth Consecutive District Title

Swim finals will be held Saturday night, at 5:30pm at Oak Marr RECenter in Oakton.

Oakton High School’s Girls Varsity Swim and Drive teams won the Concorde District Swim & Dive Championship Saturday night at Cub Run RECenter. The girls placed 1st over Robinson Secondary School, and the boys came in 2nd to Robinson Secondary School, the boys’ winners.

Bennett Fagan placed 4th for the boys 1m diving on Thursday and will move on to the AAA Northern Region Championship next week.

The Girls 400yd Freestyle Relay (Laura Branton, Megan Byrnes, Kendall Lawhorn, and Janet Hu) placed 1st with a new district record of 3:29.63 and an Automatic All American time. The Girls 200yd Medley Relay team of Janet Hu, Jade Chen, Julia Capobianco, and Elise Bourdelais also finished 1st and set a new district record (1:46.76) with an All American Consideration. The Girls 200yd Freestyle Relay of Elise Bourdelais, Julia Capobianco, Megan Byrnes, and Laura Branton came in 1st place with an All American Consideration.

The Boys 200yd Medley Relay of John Shebat, Michael Pettinichi, Denny Nguyen, and Michael Ambrose placed 1st with a new district record of 1:34.30 and an Automatic All American time. The Boys 400yd Freestyle Relay (Denny Nguyen, Nathan Pawlowicz, Drew Weber, and John Shebat) came in 2nd with a state qualifying time. The Boys 200yd Freestyle Relay team of Tom Hallock, Michael Pettinichi, Nathan Pawlowicz, and Michael Ambrose finished 3rd with a state qualifying time.

Janet Hu came in 1st in the 200yd Individual Medley with a new district record of 1:58.94 and an Automatic All American time. Hu also placed 1st in the 100yd Butterfly with a new district record of 52.52 and an Automatic All American time. Laura Branton came in 1st in the 50yd Freestyle with a state qualifying time. Branton also came in 2nd in the 100yd Freestyle with a state qualifying time and an All American Consideration. Megan Byrnes finished 1st in the 200yd Freestyle with a new district record of 1:51.31. Byrnes placed 2nd in the 100yd Backstroke with a state qualifying time as well. Kendall Lawhorn placed 3rd in the 500yd Freestyle and 4th in the 200yd Freestyle. Julia Capobianco placed 3rd in the 100yd Butterfly with a state qualifying time and 5th in the 100yd Backstroke. Elise Bourdelais finished 3rd in the 50yd Freestyle and 5th in the 100yd Freestyle with two state qualifying times. Sarah Sheridan came in 4th in the 50yd Freestyle. Mary Arscott finished 6th in the 500yd Freestyle. Caroline McClesky placed 6th in the 100yd Backstroke.

John Shebat placed 1st in the 50yd Freestyle with a new district record of 20.79 and an Automatic All American time. Shebat also came in 1st in the 100yd Backstroke with an All American Consideration time. Nathan Pawlowicz placed 2nd in the 500yd Freestyle with a state qualifying time and 2nd in the 200yd Freestyle. Denny Nguyen came in 2nd place in the 100yd Butterfly and 3rdplace in the 200yd Individual Medley with two state qualifying times. Michael Pettinichi came in 4th in both the 200yd Individual Medley and the 100yd Breaststroke.

Drew Weber came in 5th in the 100yd Butterfly and 6th in the 200yd Freestyle. Tom Hallock finished 4th in the 200yd Freestyle. Michael Ambrose placed 5th in the 100yd Freestyle. Gray Liddell finished 5th in the 500yd Freestyle. Mason Hawkins placed 6th in the 100yd Backstroke.
