Oakton Football to Play First Round of States Today

Cougars look to upset another undefeated team to advance to the state title game

The Oakton High football team will face off against the Central Region's L.C. Bird Skyhawks on the Cougars' home field 4 p.m. today, with both the season and a chance at the state title on the line.

To advance to the District 6 Virginia High School League final, the Cougars will have to upset an undefeated team for the second week in a row. Last week, the Cougars stretched their season into the state tournament with a 23-16 win over Westfield to earn the Northern Region Title for the fourth time.

Ending the regular season with a four-game losing streak, the Cougars' playoffs run has surpassed expectations from football critics across Northern Virginia. The Cougars will look to shake their underdog status once and for all with a win over the Skyhawks (12-0).
