Girls Soccer: Sudden Death Win Advances Cougars

Oakton squeaks out 1-0 win over Herndon to advance to Concorde District semifinals

Though the Oakton High soccer team dominated possession throughout the game against Herndon in the first round of the Concorde District Tournament on Wednesday, their game-winning goal — the only goal of the game — did not come until the 92nd minute of the game. 

The Cougars took 24 shots, 16 on goal, over 80 minutes of regulation and two five-minute overtimes to have the Herndon goalkeeper save the game from being .

The Hornets attempted eight shots, with Cougar goalkeeper Alex Weaver saving the seven that were on goal.

Two minutes into Sudden Death, Caroline Coyer had a cross in front of the goal to Lexie Krall, who was positioned at the left post and scored for the 1-0 victory. 

The Cougars advance to the Concorde District semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to be played at Robinson.
