Girls Lacrosse: Cougars Sail to Next Round of States

Oakton routs Loudoun County 20-2 in first round of VHSL tournament

The Oakton High girls lacrosse team is one step closer to its first state title since 2008 with a 20-2 rout over Loudoun County on Saturday night. 

With two goals from Allison Turk and Jackie Rupp within the first minute of the game, the Cougars dominated the Raiders from the start. The Cougars went on an 8-0 scoring spree before the Raiders managed their first and only goal of the first half about 10 minutes in. Piling on seven more goals, the Cougars put the halftime score at 15-1.

Turk and Rupp netted three goals in the first half, while Alex Revel, Claire Stikeleather and Tori Anderson each added two of their own. Carly Palmucci, Danielle Palmucci and Michelle Doran each tallied one goal, as well. Carly Palmucci had four assists and Rupp had three in the first half, while Stikeleather, Kelsey Clarke, Revel, Anderson and Turk each had one.

In the second half, the Cougars picked up right where they left off with a goal from Carly Palmucci. The Raiders answered with a goal — their last of the game. The Cougar reserves came in for most of the second half to add four goals from Doran, Meagan McRoberts, Lydia Montanino and Catherine Miller — all unassisted — to the final score of 20-2.

After securing titles in the and , the Oakton High girls lacrosse team have set their sights on winning the AAA Virginia High School League Championship after falling to Madison High in the final game last year.

The Cougars will continue its run for the title 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Westfield High where they'll face the winner of the Western Albemarle-Forest Park game.
