Football: Cougars Shut Out Lancers

Oakton High School starts season 5-0

The Oakton High football team continues its path to an undefeated season, defeating the Lee Lancers 42-0 to give the Cougar a perfect record heading into district play.

Quarterback Kyle Downer opened scoring with a 75-yard pass to Mike Wandey in the first quarter. Downer added to their total with 4-, 3- and 7-yard runs to end the first half 28-0.

The Cougars added two more touchdowns in the second half with 5- and 12-yard runs from Wandey and Sergio Lazcano, respectively, to complete the 42-0 shutout.

Downer led the Cougars with 110 rushing yards and 89 passing yards. Wandey added 87 rushing yards and 89 receiving yards.

The Cougars (5-0) will open Concorde District play as host to the Herndon Hornets (0-5) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
