Football: Cougars Come from Behind for Second Win

Kyle Downer tosses three touchdown passes, scores winning touchdown

The Oakton High football team has tallied its second win of the season to remain unbeaten with a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the South County Stallions 28-21 on Friday. 

Kyle Downer threw three touchdown passes — 29 yards to Andy Boone in the first quarter, and 35 and 40 yards to Kelly Brooks-Muse in the second and fourth quarters, respectively — then ran 32 yards for the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. 

Downer rushed 46 yards and threw for 117 yards.

Though the Cougars maintained a 14-7 lead at halftime, the Stallions dominated in the third quarter to take a 21-14 lead. But the touchdown pass to Brooks-Muse and Downer's touchdown run gave the Cougars the final lead.

Mike Wandey led the Cougars in rushing with 51 yards on nine carries.

On defense, the Cougars' Eric South nabbed an interception. 

The Cougars (2-0) will host their home-opener 7:30 p.m. Friday against Woodson (0-2).
