Flint Hill gives up early lead to conference foe Sidwell Friends

, the Flint Hill Huskies boys basketball team sought vengeance for a narrow loss earlier in the season, but came up short with a 74-69 loss to Sidwell Friends in overtime.

The Huskies jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first period and kept a healthy lead throughout the eight minutes with an offense led by Mo Berchie and Brian McDonald who combined for 14 of the Huskies' 16 first period points. Andy Rehberger tacked on the last two at the end of the period.

After holding the Quakers to nine points in the first, the Huskies allowed 20 points while posting 20 points of their own to keep their seven-point lead at the end of the first half.

The Quakers continued with their steady offense throughout the third, outscoring the Huskies 18 to 10 and taking the lead by one point.

The fourth period proved to be a tug-of-war for the lead that neither team won, with Berchie and McDonald again teaming up to keep the Huskies in the game with a combined 10 points. Troy Thomas tallied four points, Trevor Ogundepo added two and Rehberger sank one free throw in the Huskies' 17-point fourth period.

Berchie put up a game-high 26 points in the effort, while McDonald scored 13.

The Huskies nabbed the first lead 30 seconds into overtime, but the Quakers answered with seven straight points the Huskies could not overcome. The Quakers added four more points, while the Huskies' scoring would end with two points from McDonald with 25 seconds left — three minutes after their first basket in overtime — and Berchie with 1.3 seconds on the clock.
