Boys Basketball: Cougars Lose Third in a Row

Oakton High unable to overcome Robinson in a 68-51 loss

A second-half surge from the Oakton Cougars fell short of handing them their first win in Concorde District play, as the Cougars lost to the Robinson Rams 68-51 at home Friday.

The Cougars entered halftime down 41-14, but the 27-point deficit did not discourage the squad from pushing for the win in the second half.

The Cougars outscored the Rams 37-27 through the third and fourth periods, scoring more points in each period of the second half than the first two periods combined.

But the 37 points were not enough for the Cougars to overcome the Rams. Three games into Concorde District competition, the Cougars remain winless. The have an overall record of 5-9.

Robert Bacon and Dale Good led the Cougars with 9 points each. All nine of Good's points came through 3-pointers.

Oakton will look for their first district win when they host Centreville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Cougar Girls Remain Perfect

After falling behind 9-1 to start the game against Robinson, the Oakton High girls basketball team came back to win 62-42.

The Cougars ended the first period down 11-8, but held the Rams to five points in the second to end the first half with a 24-16 lead.

Elizabeth Manner led the Cougars with 24 points. Katherine Coyer and Caroline Coyer also scored in the double-digits with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

The Cougars improve their overall record to 15-0 and their Concorde District record to 3-0.

Oakton will travel to Centreville on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
