Oakton earns narrow victory over Chantilly

The Oakton boys basketball team snapped its six-game losing streak with a 54-51 win over Chantilly on Tuesday.

The Cougars started slow, scoring just seven points in the first period and entering halftime at 10-point deficit 28-18. But the team dominated the Chargers in the third period to post 21 points to even the score at 39-39.

The game tied at 51 with 1:34 left in the game, but Oakton took a 3-point lead with 10 seconds left. After a Chantilly turnover, the Chargers fouled Robert Bacon, who missed both free throws to leave the Cougars' lead at a narrow three points with about 2 seconds left. Chantilly attempted halfcourt shot at buzzer, but it didn't sink.

Three Cougars scored in the double-digits, with Robert Bacon leading the way at 16 points. Michael Fradette and Patrick Sofo scored 13 and 11, respectively.

The victory over Chantilly is the Cougars' first since beginning Concorde District play.

The Cougars will travel to Robinson on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
