Athlete of the Week: Steele Shemeld

Drains nine 3-pointers in loss to Robinson

Coming off an ineligibility ruling that cost Oakton its previous seven wins this season, it would be hard to blame the Cougars for rolling over to the Robinson Rams, one of the better teams in the Northern Region.

Oakton did just the opposite, pushing the Rams to the brink before losing on a late three by Robinson's Robert Pillow. Oakton's Steele Shemeld scored a career-high 31 points, including nine 3-pointers, in the loss.

His efforts earned him Oakton Patch's Athlete of the Week.

“His shooting kept us in the basketball game,” Oakton Coach David Brooks said. “He’s got the guts of a burglar out there and he’s willing to take any big shot and he works so hard on his shooting, and it’s evident every time he steps on the basketball court.”

Shemeld and the Cougars return to action Tuesday when they host Centreville.
