7 Oakton Runners Compete in Boston Marathon; Conditions Unknown for Several

When two explosions were reported near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon around 3 p.m. Monday, seven Oakton runners were registered to run in the race.

As of Monday afternoon the Boston Globe was estimating there are more than 100 people injured in the explosions and the Boston Police Twitter accounted reported that two people are dead, reports Back Bay Patch.

There are seven Oakton residents and 651 Virginia residents who registered to run the 2013 Boston Marathon.

It was not immediately clear whether any local runners were injured — if you have updates on an Oakton runner, let us know in the comments.

The race shut down as soon as security became a concern. According to video of the explosion, it went off at about 4:09 on the race clock.
