March 5-11: Virginia, Oakton Favor Romney in Primary

Mitt Romney and in the Repulican presidential primary Tuesday. At the polls, Oakton voters cited civic responsibility as their key motivation for casting their ballots in an election that included just two of the four candidates still in the running for the nomination.

Congressional candidate Kenneth Vaughn , including Oak Marr Recreation Center, around the 11th District on Tuesday. Patch caught up with him in Oakton where he was gathering more signatures to earn his spot in the Republican primary ballot, where he will compete with Col. Chris Perkins for the nomination to run against Rep. Gerry Connolly (D). Vaughn separated himself from his Republican opponent by stating, "I'm actually a conservative. I'm pro-life, he's pro-choice. I'm pro-gun rights, he thinks local jurisdictions should be able to violate the Second Amendment." A spokesman for the Perkins campaign refuted the characterization, calling the comments "blatant lies."

General Assembly 2012:

Janet Howell (D-32nd District) and Chap Petersen (D-34th) denounced the use of riot police, SWAT teams carrying automatic weapons, police dogs and helicopters in response to what they called peaceful protests in Capitol Square.
