Blank Street is a short film about economic struggles in Virginia, the people experiencing them, and the idea of becoming involved in one’s community. Sponsored by VIC and the antipoverty campaign Half in Ten, the piece follows two Virginia Commonwealth University film students as they travel the state hearing firsthand about the economic hardships many families are experiencing. From the homeless to the wealthy, no one is exempt from the possibility of hard times. Watch the trailer at http://www.blankstreetproject.com/index2.php.

A discussion will follow screening of the film.

Said Anne Murphy, chairperson of the Northern Virginia VIC chapter, “This event will offer area residents the opportunity to learn more about the Virginia Interfaith Center and the work that faith communities are doing to counter the poverty that Blank Street depicts.”

The Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy is Virginia’s oldest faith-based advocacy group. It is a nonpartisan coalition of faith communities working to create progressive public policy by engaging people of faith and educating the public about social issues, the legislative process, and the call to advocacy.
