Super Tuesday: Oakton at the Polls

Oakton voters are casting their ballots today for Virginia's Republican presidential primary election as part of Super Tuesday, in which 10 other states are participating.

But  than other contests with only two candidates — Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — on the ballot because former Sen. Rick Santorum and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich did not meet the criteria to be included, leaving Romney in a prime position to gain all of Virginia's 46 delegates.

Regardless, devoted citizens are showing up to have their say in who will face President Barack Obama (D) in the general election this fall.

Pamela King and her husband, Vining Sherman, recently moved to Oakton from Illinois, so Virginia's open primary system came as a pleasant surprise.

"We were wondering. There was no party designation when we registered, so that's good to know. I think that's a great system, actually," King said.

The couple said their first experience as Virginia primary voters was a pleasant one. 

"The process was very well done and very easy, so we're very impressed with Virginia on our first vote," King said.
