Smyth, Reed Win Re-Election Bids

Patricia Reed ran unopposed in the Providence District school board race

The Providence District voted to have Supervisor (D) and School Board Member continue their work in their respective offices.

Smyth defeated newcomer with 63.27 percent of the vote compared to his 36.66 percent.

Smyth said she believed her race came down to constituent services, instead of big issues. She said what heard more than anything at the polls was "thank you" for answering calls and addressing concerns

"That made a difference to people," Smyth said at the Fairfax County Democratic Committee's party at The Waterford at Fair Oaks.

Grisafe took his defeat with grace.

"This has been worthwhile run, and I am grateful for all of the support that I have received along the way," Grisafe wrote in an email to Patch. "I look forward to continuing to push for greater transparency in our county's budget, and to being a standing voice for positive change in our community.

Reed ran unopposed in her campaign for re-election to the Providence District school board seat. She said her first priority is to make sure the six newcomers and six incumbents all have a professional, productive relationship.

"The first thing I'd like to do is to get all the new school board members together and schedule an opportunity to get to know one another and make sure that we start off all on the same page," she said.
