Six Days Later: Oakton Nearly Powered Up
VDOT list of closed roads no longer includes Hunter Mill Road
UPDATE (9:30 a.m.): Dominion Virginia Power has released its list of work sites for Thursday. Among them are:
- Five Oaks Road, north of Chain Bridge Road
- Hunter View Road & Hunter Mill Road
- Jermantown Road & Spruce Road
- Miller Road, west of Wilson Avenue
- Waples Mill Road, east of Fox Hill Road

Dominion Virginia Power estimates 3,824 customers in Fairfax County remain powerless after Friday's derecho, with small clusters of Oakton customers still affected as of 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
Each morning, Dominion has released a list of streets where crews will be working to restore power. On Wednesday, the list included Stuart Mill Road, Hunt Road, Vale Spring Drive and Vale Road, Barden Oaks Court, Birdfoot Lane, Bushman Drive, Hunter Mill Road and Miller Road, with many of those areas receiving full power by the end of the day.

"Thank you @DomVAPower crew at Bushman in Oakton, VA. We are back on the grid thanks to team working ALL DAY in the heat," tweeted Stephanie Granlund on Wednesday evening.
A work list for Thursday has not yet been released. Oakton Patch will update this article with the information as it becomes available.
As of about 1:30 a.m. the following roads in and around the Oakton-Vienna are closed because of debris, according to Virginia Department of Transportation's 511virginia.org:
- Rosehaven Street, near Spruce Street (Oakton)
- Fox Mill Road, from Vale Road to Foxvale Road (Oakton)
- Birdfoot Lane, from Stuart Mill Road to Lawyers Road (Vienna)
- Clarks Crossing Road, near Timberview Court (Vienna)
- Prince William Drive, from Coronado Terrace to Hamilton Drive (Mantua)
- Juniper Street, off Lee Highway (Merrifield)

Stay Cool
If you're without power, consider getting relief from the heat at the closest recreation center or library branch. and have power and are open today.
Also: Worried dealing with the storm and its aftermath has left you with an overdue fee at the library? Don't. Items due between June 29 and July 8 are now due July 9. Customer records have been adjusted to reflect the new due date.
Clearing Debris
Residents can use Fairfax County's two disposal facilities, which accept tree branches that are 20 inches or less in diameter, to rid their yard of debris:
- I-66 Transfer Station
4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax
Monday-Saturday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. - I-95 Solid Waste Complex
9850 Furnace Road, Lorton
Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The facilities charge a minimum $5 fee for residents. Payment may be made by cash, Visa or MasterCard. If residents utilize the county's trash collection services, they must call to schedule a brush pickup at 703-802-3322. Others should contact their own trash collection company for instructions.
