Sharrett Considers Ending Search for Accountability in Death of His Son

Pfc. David Sharrett II was killed by a fellow U.S. Army soldier in Iraq in 2008.

After meeting with U.S. Army Secretary John McHugh on Thursday, David Sharrett Sr. is considering leaving the push for answers in his son's death to the media rather than seeking them himself, he told the Washington Post.

In 2008, Pfc. David Sharrett II died in a friendly fire incident in Iraq, which the Army disclosed to them at the time of his death. But they later found out the officer who fired the shots, 1st Lt. Timothy Hanson, did not inform anyone of the incident and Sharrett was left for dead.

Sharrett has been seeking answers about how the Army will exact justice, but he was left unsatisfied after Thursday's meeting with McHugh.
