Plum Wins 16th Consecutive Bid for Delegate

Mac Cannon falls to Plum for second election in a row

Del. (D) will continue his long reign in the 36th Delegate District seat with a victory over , who also challenged him in 2009.

Plum pulled in 64.10 percent of the votes, while Cannon took in 35.88 percent in a race that saw 26.17 percent turnout.

Plum served as a delegate from 1978 through 1980 and then again 1982 until the present. He is the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.

"The news in Fairfax County was good," Plum said. "It's not necessarily going to be good news statewide. But you are sending a hearty group down to Richmond, and we will continue to fight for you."

Cannon took his second loss to Plum with grace, congratulating his opponent and thanking his volunteers.

"It's not something you like, but it's part of the process and you just have to keep pushing forward," Cannon said. "I have absolutely no reason why I won't run again. I'll have to go home and weigh some things, but I can't see why not."
