Oak Marr Recreation Center Opens Turf Fields

Two new fields are striped for multiple sports

Though a storm moved the ribbon-cutting indoors, Fairfax County officials unveiled the new turf fields at Oak Marr Recreation Center on Sept. 8.

Representatives from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors — including Chairman Sharon Bulova and Linda Smyth (Providence) — and the Fairfax County Park Authority Board joined with representativs of local sports clubs in the ceremony celebrating two new synthetic turf fields at the Oakton recreation center.

Each field, striped for multiple sports including cricket, measures 190'x370'. The yearlong project cost about $1.7 million, not including the $400,000 lighting system installed last year before construction of the fields began. The project also installed new sod, goal posts, a retaining wall with guardrail and stairs, a storm drain system, and an accessible route to the fields, according to a statement from the Park Authority.
