NewPath to Host Public Meeting on Plans for Cell Nodes in Miller Heights Neighborhood

NewPath Networks has invited Miller Heights neighbors to a public meeting tonight about four cell nodes the company hopes to build.

NewPath Networks, represented by the law firm Donohue and Stearns, submitted an application in September that would call for 10 cell nodes in the Vale and Fox Mill roads area, located in Sully District. In August, NewPath representatives  to a public meeting. The handful of residents who attended seemed receptive to the proposal, acknowledging service problems in the area.

The nodes would provide broadband antennas that can accommodate any wireless carrier, allowing for greater wireless coverage and capacity in the area.

In a Jan. 19 letter, NewPath invited residents in the Miller Heights area to a meeting at Waples Mill Elementary School at 7 p.m. tonight for the nodes planned at the following approximate addresses:

• 11019 Blue Roan Road
• 3127 Miller Heights Road
• 3104 Miller Heights Road
• 3210 History Drive

The History Drive location is not located in Miller Heights, but will be included in the Providence District application.

NewPath has had several public meetings in the last 18 months about cell node applications for the Oakton area. In May, for five cell nodes in the Oakton-Vienna area (Hunter Mill Road, Vale Road and Oak Valley Drive) after they could not address . NewPath plans to resubmit an adjusted application for that area.

The proposal planned to expand on a project already completed in the Oakton area that brought cell nodes to Hunter Mill Road using existing utility and light poles. Miller Heights and History Drive do not have such structures, as the neighborhoods are equipped with underground wiring.

"At each location, we propose the placement of a new free-standing pole that will function as both a light standard (providing increased traffic safety) and a platform for small wireless antennas which can serve mutiple wireless service providers (WSP's)," NewPath wrote in its letter to residents.

AT&T has hired NewPath, a subsidiary of Crown Castle, for the Oakton project.

The preliminary plans presented to Vale and Fox Mill roads residents place cell nodes at the following approximate addresses. Estimated height for the four nodes being discussed at tonight's public meeting could not be obtained before publication of this article:
