Fairfax County School Board votes on discipline policy

A man displayed a gun and the BB&T on Chain Bridge Road in Oakton on Wednesday. Police arrested a suspect in Washington, D.C., after a pursuit that crossed three jurisdictions. The pursuit ended in a crash that landed two bystanders and the suspect in the hospital.

Flint Hill School 124 students at its commencement ceremony Friday, which featured Flint Hill alumnus Eliot Brenner ('67) as the keynote speaker. In a video, Patch gathered goodbye and good luck message from both the graduates and their families.

The Fairfax County School Board on new discipline policies Thursday, rejecting an amendment that would require parental notification when a child is questioned and one that would have schools rely less on involuntary transfer as a disciplinary measure.

Before the meeting, the Fairfax Zero Tolerance Reform group in front of Luther Jackson Middle School, where the school board meetings are held, to rally for changes to the disciplinary process.

Toy Corner and Abby's Hallmark in Oakton Shopping Center a Sidewalk Sale despite the heat and a parking lot construction project. The Sidewalk Sale is a tradition that goes back about 10 years when more stores in the center used to participate. With many of the stores originally involved now closed, Toy Corner and Abby's Hallmark are the only participants left.

After months of back-and-forth among residents, NewPath Networks and the Planning Commission, the application for five new cell nodes in the Oakton-Vienna area has been . NewPath's representatives plan to submit a new application in the near future.

After Chantilly in the state semifinal, Oakton girls lacrosse headed to the state championship where they to crosstown rival — and state tourney favorite — Madison.

The Oakton High football program is money to buy players new helmets for the upcoming season. The booster club has organized a golf tournament at Penderbrook for Father's Day, hoping to raise the $30,000 necessary to purchase the new helmets.
