Culipher Announces Plan for Commute Tax Credit

Proposal would give tax credit to those who directly contribute to major transportation projects

is running a campaign based on cutting voters' commutes and cutting their taxes. On Monday, she released her plan on how transportation projects can be paid for while reducing taxes.

Culipher (R), who is running for the 34th District seat against (D), proposed a tax credit for those who give direct financial contributions to major transportation projects.

"Your boss wants you to get to work faster. I want you to get home faster," Culipher said in a video. "We can work as a public/private partnership with corporations and individual taxpayers in this way to see to it that we can fund our transportation needs."

She used the current daycare facility tax credit as a model for her Community Commute Tax Credit proposal.

"Gimmicks and new tax loopholes won't improve Northern Virginians commutes or the traffic situation," said Ben Hodapp, Petersen's campaign manager. "There has to be a steady revenue stream and a plan that balances highway and transit needs in order to give Virginians realistic options for getting to and from work. That's why Chap has been working with Governor McDonnell and leaders in both parties to offer solutions such as Rapid Bus and I-95 Hot Lanes."
