Allen Leads Money Race in Oakton

Tim Kaine has narrow lead in campaign fundraising statewide

As Tim Kaine (D) gained his first lead in the polls over George Allen (R) in the U.S. Senate race this week, he is falling behind in the money race in Oakton. 

During the most recent filing period, which ran from May 24 to June 30, Kaine raised $667,000 in donations of $200 or more from Virginians, according to the Virginia Public Access Project, which compiles its data from OpenSecrets.org

Allen raised less statewide, with $409,000, according to the data.

But Allen holds a slight lead over his Democratic opponent in the Oakton area among residents in the 22124 ZIP code, so far raising $24,500 from donors who have given $200 or more since his campaign began. 

Kaine has raised $18,900 from residents in the 22124 ZIP code.

In overall fundraising, Kaine is hanging onto a narrow lead with $3.6 million compared to Allen’s $3.5 million in Virginia, in donations of $200 or more from Virginians.
