An Oakton woman was arrested last month after she was accused of stealing merchandise from Macy's in the Fair Oaks Mall, where she was employed, Fairfax County Police said.
Mahnaz Ghaffari, 43, of 11900 block of Vale Road, was arrested Sept. 20 and charged with embezzling and stealing goods with the intent to sell. Both charges are for merchandise valued at more than $200.
Fairfax County Police would not release how much the merchandise in question is valued, except to say it was worth more than $200, which makes them felonies. The Fairfax County General District Court did not have the amount on file.
On Sept. 19, Macy's contacted the Fairfax County Police to report suspicions Ghaffari had stolen merchandise. After an investigation, Ghaffari was arrested Sept. 20 and released on her own recognizance.
Ghaffari had been employed at Macy's since 2009. The status of her employment is unknown.
A preliminary trial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 28 at the Fairfax County Courthouse, where a judge will determine if the case will move on to a grand jury.
