UPDATE: Motorcyclist Killed in Accident in Oakton

He was helicoptered from scene with life-threatening injuries.

UPDATE 10:18 a.m.

A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle struck a passenger car on White Granite Drive near the intersection of Chain Bridge Road.

Darren Frederick Morrell, 32, of Valentino Drive in Oakton, was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time after being helicoptered from the scene of the accident.

Morrell was driving a 2005 Honda CBR bike on White Granite Drive when an 85-year-old Oakton man driving a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix exited the post office parking lot and attempted to turn left onto White Granite Drive, apparently not seeing the motorcycle as he turned in front of it. The motorcycle struck the left front wheel, ejecting Morrell onto pavement..

Passengers in the Pontiac were not injured.

Fairfax County Police shut down White Granite Drive on Tuesday afternoon for crash reconstruction.

No charges have been brought against the driver of the Pontiac, as the investigation is ongoing.

Original: Motorcyclist Hurt in Collision

A motorcyclist faced life-threatening injuries after a collision Tuesday on White Granite Drive, police said.

He was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital after the 2:20 p.m. crash. White Granite Drive was closed for accident reconstruction.

The incident report does not give details on the nature of the collision, said Officer Don Gotthardt, a Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson. The car was described as a white Pontiac.
