Man Struck at Clarendon Metro; Passengers Delayed
Passengers on involved train remained put for about 90 minutes
After a McLean man hundreds of rush-hour Metro riders found themselves delayed hours because of closed stations, broken escalators and a crowded shuttle route.
Passengers on the train involved in the incident remained on the train for about 90 minutes, at one point with no power or air conditioning as rescue workers pulled the man, still alive and conscious when rescue workers arrived, from under the train.
Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said the man was a 39-year-old resident of McLean. He is in serious condition and suffered head injuries and multiple broken bones, Stessel said in an email. The injuries are considered potentially life threatening, Stessel said.
