Man Charged in Accident At Route 123 and Miller Road

Car ends up in ditch after Wednesday incident.

A man was charged with failure to yield right of way after an accident Wednesday that forced another car nose-first into a ditch off of Chain Bridge Road.

Fairfax County Police Department spokesman Officer Don Gotthardt reported round 1:11 p.m. Wednesday, a 69-year-old man was driving north on Route 123.

The man, driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, made a left in front of a 2012 Honda Civic traveling southbound on the road.

The Honda Civic bounced off of a third car coming out of Miller Road onto Route 123 before going off road and landing in the ditch.

There were no injuries.

This is a tremendously dangerous intersection, due to the combination of heavy traffic and the proximity of the lights at 123 and Miller Road and at 123 and Hunter Mill Road. Between drivers "blocking the box" at the Miller intersection and drivers "flooring it" towards the Miller intersection after turning right on red from Hunter Mill Road onto southbound 123, bad things are bound to happen. Thank goodness no one was injured this time. I sincerely hope that the issue is addressed very soon.
