Fair Oaks District Officers of the Month: Ron Haas & D.J. Faulk

Station names duo for monthly honor

The Fair Oaks District Citizen Advisory Committee honored Officers Ron Haas and D.J. Faulk of the neighborhood watch unit with April's Officer of the Month honor.

"These guys operate in teams of two, so it's hard to give one an award and not the other," said their supervisor, Lt. Jay Carson. "So thank you for honoring both for this. I know it's usually an individual award."

Carson nominated Haas and Faulk because of their thorough work on a case that led to an arrest of a man in the Fair Lakes area accused of dealing methamphetamines.

After a call from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the narcotics unit asking for help getting closer to the suspect, Haas and Faulk started to do presurveillance work on the house. They discovered it was a fortified house with surveillance cameras so the suspect could see law enforcement coming, Carson said.

One night, officers stopped by the house to check on it when the suspect walked out. He was followed and apprehended that night.

"We were able to get a search warrant based on the research these guys did. They kept great track of all the work they did on the house, so when the SWAT team showed up they almost didn't have to do anything because of the work they did," Carson said. "They had photographs of the house, where the cameras were, layouts of the house. Narcotics showed up and they were ecstatic. I got so many compliments from our SWAT team and our narcotics unit, I felt they were deserving of this award."

An ounce of methamphetamines was found in the house.

The CAC awarded Haas and Faulk with a certificate and a gift card to Texas Day Brazil.
